Optimise your menu for delivery now!

Consumers have never been more in demand for home meal delivery, and the industry is growing steadily, with an estimated $164 billion in revenue by 2024. Off-premise dining experiences already account for 60% of the market. In this context, offering delivery is a good idea to develop your business.

If you go down this road, you will have to ensure that the experience your customers have in their lounge meets theirexpectations. This may seem impossible at first, as these kinds of tastings cannot be compared to those in restaurants. So, to make sure that your dishes don't all end up as mush when delivered, here are some good tips!

Consider delivery constraints

A dish that gets all the love in your dining room may not be the best choice when it comes to home delivery. Are you sure it can handle the delivery and its hazards? Does it contain too much wet food? Does it look as good in a takeaway box as it does on a plate?

When you start delivering, take the time to choose the menus you will offer for delivery. To help you in your thinking, here are some tips:

- How long does it take for your preparations to cool or soften?

- Can you package your dishes so that they look good and don't get squashed?

- Can certain ingredients be replaced by others that do not lose texture?

- Can your kitchen staff handle deliveries on a regular, even sustained basis?

- Do your prices allow you to offer a dish or dessert to your customers?

- How long does it take to prepare a dish?

Make it easy for your customers to choose

It has been observed that the menus that attract the most foodies on the platforms have on average between 15 and 20 items. Remember that when they log on to their favourite platform, your future customer already has in mind the type of food they would like to eat. So don't offer them too much choice.

Create categories: starters, main courses, desserts, drinks. This will make it much easier for your customers to make their choice.

It's not just the taste that counts...

...appearance too! Sight helps to whet the appetite, so it is essential that you take care of the photos of the dishes you offer for delivery. Take the opportunity to write mouth-watering descriptions. Hungry people love beautiful pictures of food!

The description is there to convince the customer. Be creative to stand out from your competitors. A good practice is to give original names to your dishes.

How long does it take to deliver?

To ensure that your delivery business gives you complete satisfaction, calculate how long it will take you to cook and deliver your food. While it is true that short delivery times are better, don't forget that your food represents your brand image and that it must arrive at your customers' homes looking good!

If necessary, narrow your focus around your restaurant.

And after delivery?

Your customers' opinions and comments are a great help in improving your business. Update your menus and test new items regularly to increase the satisfaction of your regulars and attract new customers.
