The Covid 19 epidemic has forced many of you to close your businesses, either partially or completely. Takeaway sales are not enough to replenish the coffers, and insurers are being cautious or even absent. For some, the lack of tourists does not help matters. In this context, it is necessary to reinvent yourself and redefine a new strategy, both to attract customers when you re-open and to reduce your costs. RusHour gives you 5 tips on how to do this without any pitfalls.

1. Keep a close eye on the increase in your unexpected expenses

You may be one of those courageous professionals who have implemented a comprehensive protocol to comply with health measures to the letter:

- You have invested a lot of money in buying masks;
- You have invested again in providing hydro-alcoholic gel to your employees;
- You have invested more than usual in cleaning services.

And if you look at these expenses through the prism of the price increase that your masks must have experienced during and after the first containment, the amounts become colossal...

2. Talk to a financial advisor

If you are one of the restaurateurs thinking of applying for a loan, or credit facilities, to reopen your restaurant with confidence, get some help. Ask your accountant or a financial advisor for advice. These professionals are in the best position to assess the viability of your project with you. They will give you valuable advice on the maximum amount you can ask your lender for. Don't rush headlong into debt: taking on too much or reopening without realistic projections could work against you instead of giving you a new boost...

3. Review your menus

It is important that your financial concerns or lack of visibility do not impact on the quality of your cooking.
So, to avoid this, you may need to review your menu and opt for menus that allow you to reduce your costs. You can also keep only the most popular dishes on the menu, or those that your most loyal customers request most often. And if this lowers your morale, remember that this is only supposed to be a temporary situation.

4. Open for less time during the day

To reduce your costs, why not open only part-time? If most of your turnover is at lunchtime or in the evening, this
may be an interesting solution. Re-open as normal when demand returns to pre-Covid levels. Make sure your staff understand this measure: not all your employees may be able to return to work, or not with the same number of hours as before. This understanding is important because you will need them when you reopen.

5. Take advantage of online meal ordering

As we told you in a previous article, online meal ordering exploded during the first containment. This trend seems to be continuing today, even if the numbers are a little lower. Consumer habits have changed: home delivery is a solution for the future. Many companies are already increasing their turnover with home delivery. You can add your brand name to theirs by installing an order management solution. All your orders will be centralised in one place, optimising your time, your food and your employees!
